Fata Morgana

Fata sighed with apprehension as she flew closer to the meeting spot. She wasn't worried for her safety, yet. At her size, she could easily be mistaken for a large dragonfly. It's happened before. Her face contorted at the memory of being swatted at by a large man with a heavy boot. She almost missed the spot, but she suddenly stopped. The place was marked by a tree growing at a very odd angle. "This must be it.." she muttered to herself. She popped into human form, as to not startle anymore by her fairy-ness. She noticed her feet covered by a light fog. She sighed once again. "Of course. The extra creepy touch." She quietness frightened her as it was.

Until someone called out, "Fata Althea Morgana." "HOLY HELL!" Fata turned to run until the voice demanded "Stay still." Fata gulped. "Okay..." She squinted into the thick trees. "Who is that?" The person, who Fata assumed to be a man, replied, "No one of importance. My purpose is to take you to the meeting place." Fata played with a piece of her hair nervously. "Well, that's good. For a minute, I thought we were going to have the meeting here." She chuckled apprehensively. He didn't chuckle back. She swallowed. "We have to bound you before we go any further-" "Excuse me?" She thought she heard a sigh of annoyance before the man continued. "It's for safety precautions, ma'am." Fata was very reluctant. "I don't know..." "Do you want to attend the meeting?" Fata glared in the general direction of the voice. "Fine. Do anything and I'll hex your ass into next week." This time, there was a chuckle. "Of course you will. Now close your eyes and stay still." She complied. She was blindfolded with a piece of silk and her hands were bound with a tough rope. "Ow," she said with more annoyance than pain. She was then guided to a carriage, and the man helped her inside. "Thank you," she said. "It will take an hour to get there," the man said as he climbed inside. Fata sighed. "Goodie." Then the carriage took off.

Amaya watched as her two friends reached the clearing at the edge of the forest, sitting as quietly as possible. The cloaking spell always made her ichy, but the Fae felt sure that if they were going to do this, they were going to do this her way. At the same time, she felt a knot of anxiety in her chest; if the Peacemakers found out that she was using a cloaking spell to stay invisible, all hell would break lose.

However, as Fata was led away, Amaya realized that she was simply trying to put this meeting off. So many hopes and fears lay completely on this meeting, on her impressions on the ever elusive Peacemakers. Amaya took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly to calm herself. She made her way towards the entrance where the would be waiting, and when a puff of fog covered her form, she dropped the cloaking spell, and made a mental note to thank Fata for product, and then pick up about fifty more. The things were damn useful.

She took a step out of the fog, and was unsurprised to hear a man call, "Kaori Amaya Celeste." Amaya couldn't help smiling.

"Just Amaya, if you please."

The script of the man didn't alter any from Ana or Fata, and Amaya submitted herself to all of the binding silently. "I do hope that these aren't your only safety precautions, sir. Anyone with magic could easily decimate you if you don't have help."

"I wouldn't worry about such things...Amaya," the man finished, and as he led Amaya to a carriage.

'Well,' Amaya thought. 'That reveals two things. He's not alone, and they have mages on hand. I wonder what other surprises Peacemakers has for us...'

The ride was droll for Anastasia due to the blindfold around her eyes. She had even fallen asleep about fifteen minutes into it. Anastasia was woken quite subtly by the man looming over her. She didn't see him of course since the blindfold was still on, but she felt his presence. "We've arrived, milady," he said indifferently. "Oh..." Ana said, sitting up. She then raised a hand to fix her hair and was surprised that her binds had been untied. Pushing it out of her mind, Anastasia fixed the coiffure and was helped out of the carriage. The man then continued to lead her by the hand away from the carriage. She could tell they weren't in the forest anymore as she heard her heel clack against stone pavement. Also, the silence had died down and there were actually people here.

They stopped after a few yards. Ana frowned, but then heard the man leading her give a word of affirmation. "Your friends are on their way, milady," he said, his voice startling her. "But let us wait inside." Anastasia's feet carried her another few hundred yards before they stopped again. "Lady Anastasia for the Forum," he said shortly. After a few seconds of silence, she heard a pair of doors open silently. A cool air hit her face briefly and they walked in. The sunlight had been blocked, as all warmth went away from her face, so Anastasia could tell they entered some type of housing. "I suggest you think about something else, milady," the man said. "It will be a long and winding road to our destination."

And boy was he serious. Anastasia had lost count of the staircases after about the tenth one they went down. Once again, all sound and fury, signifying nothing was gone save for the crackling of the torches in the corridor. "How much longer do we have?" she asked, growing slightly impatient. "Just a little longer." She huffed angrily, but remained quiet.

"Are we there yet?" Fata grinned. She asked the question three times already over the course of the trip. The first two times, it was truly out of inquistiveness, but now she was doing to get a rise of the man and to calm her nerves. It made the ride less foreboding. "Almost, and if you ask me again, I'll just leave you here. With blindfold and bindings still on." She huffed. "Sorry. Just trying to make this... you know, less terrifying." She heard him scoff. "Terrifying? I'm not going to do anything to you." Fata nodded and replied, "I know that. It's just the meeting itself." She sighed and place her head in her hands, which proved a little difficult with the binding. "I hate this kind of stuff. War, violence, that kind of thing. Scares the bejezzus out of me."

She could almost hear the man's eyebrow raise. It was in his tone. "Then why are you here?" Fata sat back up, her mouth set in a straight line. "Because this war stinks and no body's doing anything. Thought I might as well try something." Suddenly, the carriage stopped. "We're here." "Spiffy." The man helped her out, and the sound of a knife being pulled rang out. Fata jumped back. "What the-" "I just forogt to undo your ropes, come here." Fata rolled her eyes, even though the man couldn't see, as she held out her hands.

After Fata was admitted into... where ever they were, they stopped. "Oh God..." the man muttered. "Hm?" Fata asked. "We have a bit of a walk ahead. Just... don't waste your breath on talking." After an indigant huff, Fata followed the man down the winding staircase.

Amaya was about ready to murder this strange man who was leading her to the earth's end. "Watch your step." The mystery man said yet again.

Amaya groaned. "Please, give me a minute." She reached up with her newly unbound hands and wiped away the sweat that beaded her hairline. She flapped her skirts in an effort to improve the air circulation, but it didn't make much a difference. "Are we almost there?" Amaya said, nearly in a whine. She recoiled at the annoying tone, and looked down. "Sorry," She muttered. "I know your just doing your job."

The man's chuckle gave her goosebumps. "Don't worry, we're almost there."

"That's what you said before!" Amaya cried indignantly. In a huff, she tried to navigate the stairs herself. Reluctantly, she allowed him to help her up after she tripped, and they continued their way up the steps. "Where are Fata and Ana?" Amaya asked curiously.

"Probably already at the meeting room. Of course, speak of the devil. We're here, Amaya."

"Thank God," the Fae grumbled. Though her natural instinct was to flinch away from the man's hands, she allowed him to undo the blindfold. She tried to open her eyes, but the bright light blinded her. She turned away blinking against the tears, and felt a soft hankercheif get shoved into her hands.

Amaya held it up to her eyes, drying the tears. "Thanks. I appreciate it," the woman said quietly. "If all the members of the Peacemakers are like you, I don't think we'll have anything to worry about. As her eyes adjusted, Amaya turned back to the great hall, barely noticing it's wide archways, gold details, and general splendor. Her focus was elsewhere.

"Ana! Fata!"

Anastasia's mind began to wander as soon as they stopped. "We're here," the man said. "Finally," Ana muttered. The blindfold was removed and Ana's eyes had to adjust to the dim lighting. The room he had led her to was dark and damp, water trickling down cracks in the stone walls. It was also cold. Anastasia blessed Andrea for recommending the long sleeved dress for the meeting. Still, her neck was exposed to the chill in the air, making her shiver slightly. "I'm sorry we have no ermine furs to give to milady," the man said, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Anastasia shook her head. "It's alright." She then realized she could turn around and look at the man. Anastasia did just this, but the man had stepped into a dark corner that hid the upper half of his body.

"Why won't you let me see your face?" she asked, curious. He grunted in reply, but didn't answer her question. Anastasia pursed her lips and looked for a place to sit down. She didn't see one so remained standing, her hands neatly folded in front of her.

The man in the corner eyed her as she looked around. She had changed so much in the past three years. She was no longer the shy girl he knew, but had blossomed into a beautiful woman. But she had changed much more than that. Her hair was powdered white with a few decorations pinned to it. Also, rouge stained her cheeks and the air that was around her held something that he wasn't familiar with. "We're waiting for your friends to arrive," he said finally.
Fata Morgana

Fata took a huge breath. "So..." Huff. "Many..." Puff. "Steps." Exhale. Her escort didn't reply. "Can I have a break?" The man let out an indigant huff. "You just had one! And we're nearly there. So please, stop complaining." Fata pouted and said, "I don't like you." He replied, "Well, I don't like you either." Fata went ahead of the man, trying to find her way by herself, blindfolded. "Watch out for-" Suddenly, Fata fell on her ass on flat ground. The man sighed. "The landing."

Fata could hear his rushed steps as he went to help her up. "Are you okay?" Finally, the man undid her blindfold. She said without looking up at him, "Yes, I'm fine. Thank-" she suddenly stopped. Her escort.. wasn't that bad looking. No, Fata! Focus. Meeting. War. That stuff. Not hot captors. She finished weakly, "You." The man shook his head. "I wasn't supposed to let you see me. Shit." Fata shook her head. "I won't tell if you won't," she said with resignation. This day was getting weirder and weirder.

Fata was let into a dark, dank, and very cold room. She had to blink a few times to get used to the light, or lack of. "How home-y," she muttered. She glanced around until she saw one of the two people she had been dying to see all day. "Ana! Oh, thank goodness. I had no idea what the hell has been going on." She rushed to hug her friend. While doing that, the door opened again, this time bringing in the other person she wanted to see. "Amaya!" She ran over to hug her too. After releasing Amaya, she took a shaky breath. "Okay, so the gang's all here. Now what?"

Ana pulled on her petticoat after Fata's hug crinkled it. "Hello Fata, Amaya," she said gently, nodding. It then grew quiet after the question was uttered from the Fae's lips. Anastasia's escort straightened from leaning against the wall and stepped forward slightly. She cursed mentally when he avoided the light. "A messenger should be sent from within the forum to notify us that the Council is ready to meet with you," he said. "I'm sorry we have nothing to eat or drink while you wait."
