Prince Theodore felt a little bit nervous being here. Well-- more than just a little bit nervous. His fingers shuffled with his clothing gently. The feeling of the fabric in his hands was the only comfort he had at the moment.

There was an odd sense of guilt that was washing up inside of the small boy. As much as someone his age could muster and deal with such a feeling, he started to chew his lip. He felt odd being at a party like this specially when his sister was so far away from home. Attending a party that was being hosted by the woman his sister claimed to hate so much made him feel guilty.

His mother always told him to be polite to women. So he couldn’t find the heart to just say no to the invitation. To decline a lady’s request was rude in his opinion.

“I promise to be good, Retta…” He mumbled under his breath.

He fiddled with his costume once more. After telling his hand maids what he was to attend they had started to flock around him squealing with glee. During that night he hadn’t understood what was so joyous about a simple costume party but after telling them what he wished to dress up as they had squealed even more. Puss in Boots. It was a story character he enjoyed. Why did that make the maids giggle so much when they placed the head piece on his head and the fuzzy tail around his waist?

Theodore took a shaky breath and walked into the chamber. At his side was one of the attendance that was always with him. Safety-- his mother would say. He asked his attendant to take him to a seat. Upon reaching it, he sat and listened very carefully to the music and shuffling bodies. Hopefully his older brother would show up shortly.

Amaya watched as Kip and Ana spoke quietly to eachother, and make her way elsewhere so as to give them some privacy. She could always find Kip later and wish him his many happy returns.

Searching for a friendly face, she was surprised to see a young boy in the room, and seemingly unattached to any of the other members of the party. "Hey kid," she said, by way of introduction. "Aren't you a little young to be around all this wine?"

Hearing a female voice near him, Theodore lifted his head slightly. The voice seemed strong and feminine, with a sort of confidence about it. The small boy smiled lightly at her comment and kept his blank gaze forward.

“The wine smells much too strong for me to have anyway. I’m here just to listen to the music.” He said gently, still smiling. “I hope I don’t look too out of place, milady.”

Amaya laughed freely. "You've got a bit of an edge to you, don't you? No kiddo, you don't look to out of place." The Fae put a slender hand on her waist and casually pulled off her mask. "Do you find the music acceptable?" She teased, voice cheery. "Though you do look kinda awkward. Maybe I'll adopt you for the evening, make you my little brother. You remind me of him, a little."

Amaya tilted her head. "Therefore, with your permission, I'll adopt you for the evening and make sure you get to have some fun." The violet eyed beauty paused for a minute.

"You know, I think I may be hanging around Fata to much. I'm going to assume that you want to know my name, okay munchkin? I'm Kaori Amaya Celeste. Just call me Amaya. And you are?"

Theodore was lost for words for a moment as he picked how to reply. “Thank you?” Being adopted as a little brother for the night? He knew all about how to be a little brother so he didn’t think that would make much of a difference.

Used to the little nicknames he always received, he gave a tiny laugh and blushed. His eyes still stayed forward but tilted towards the lovely voice. “Prince Theodore of Gaea, Lady Amaya, but I do hope my title doesn’t make you turn me away.”

He reached up to fiddle with the little cat ears on his hat. “I may not be the best of a party partner, I’m afraid.”

The Faerie resisted the urge to smother the adorable kid in her arms, but figured that some sense of propriety wouldn't be a bad idea. She curstied and then smiled. "Kiddo, I don't think you have to worry to much, prince or not. I'm pretty sure your heart's in the right place, ne?"

Amaya plucked the cat ears off, tousled his hair and then replaced them. She then tugged on him so that he would be facing her. "Kiddo, I don't bite, I swear. You looked so lonely..." She looked a little taken aback at the worry in the Theodore's eyes. "Hey, you okay, Teddy? I can call you Teddy, right?" Amaya shook her head. "Anyways. At least I know the reason for this big lummox over there. It's because of your sister. Is she really kidnapped? Is that why your so worried?"

Although Ana seemed to have fewer kind words than not about Princess Floretta, Amaya figured it was just personal differences. She hoped that such a sweet kid wasn't to torn apart.

The mention of his sister did make his heart clench. Everyone that spoke to him somehow managed to ask him about it and how he felt. She was ‘kidnapped.’ I should be so very torn. Theodore gave a pout. All this acting had made him so wary. He had too much respect for his sister and mother to just let the façade go though. No matter how much his mother’s ideas and his sister’s justifications were making him hurt inside.

He gave a strong smile to the woman and carefully stood up from his chair. “I am trying to keep my best wishes and thoughts with my sister.” He said gently, giving a nod, “I hope all the best for her but I know of what strengths she has.” His smile turned sad.

Theodore quickly lifted his head. “Will you help me to a dance, Lady Amaya? Friends always call me Teddy, so I must dance with my friends.”

As she knew how to put on an act for the public when you wanted to kill someone, or just breakdown and cry, Amaya's eyes softened when she saw his bright, strong smile. "From what I've heard, your sister is to strong to let something like a mere kidnapping keeping from coming back." She winced a little internally at the slight lie. Specifically, Ana had said Floretta was as hard to crush comepletely as a snake.

When he extended his hand, she knew it was official. "Munchkin, with that move, you've sealed your fate. You've got another sister, whether you like it or not. And I would be honored to dance with such a sweet man."

Keeping her sunny smile, she placed her palm against his, and followed his lead towards the dance floor. "Uhhhhh..." she paused for a minute. "Will our friend the lummox be joining us on the floor?"

Theodore was puzzled at her mention of the third party but soon assumed she was talking about his attendant. The man of course was shadowing Theodore with every careful step that the boy took. Theodore sighed slightly, knowing that he had forgotten about the attendant again. It was so normal for Theodore to have someone being his guide.

“Forgive me, he will only be watching. Hopefully from afar.” Theodore paused to turn to his attendant and asked him very politely to keep at the table.

“I have been so used to them being around me. Will you be my eyes for the dance then?” He said gently. It was common for people to know the youngest prince was blind. Why the hand maids and attendants were always at his feet making sure he did not slip. He feared it was embarrassing him.

"Kiddo, that'll be no problem. Before I was banished, someone I love very much asked me to be his eyes, once. I've never tried it with dancing, but I think we can stumble along togethor." She paused before leading her new partner out.

It was a blessedly slow waltz. She helped him with his hands, and then adjusted hers, before leading him through the steps, first at half speed, then adjusting to normal. He was incredibly graceful, elegant and poised. "Don't worry," Amaya eventually breathed as they both relaxed. "You're doing well."

The beats of the music wound around the pair, until finally the piece wound down to a soft and heart-wrenching chord progression. "Beautiful piece, isn't it? I heard it once, back in Faerie. They say that it's the most elegant piece ever composed." She didn't remove her hands from his waist. "Will you concede to be my partner for the evening?" She asked almost suddenly. "I think I like you a lot, munchkin, and I think I could learn a lot from you. Of course, you can also call me crazy. So what's your call?"

He felt the embarrassed heat in his cheeks again during the entire dance. All the while he felt silly and so very small out of the dance floor. Lessons had been established by his mother when he was a little younger but it still never helped the fact that he felt so clumsily when trying to do things like this.

Everything felt like a warm whirl of black. Music was tingling his ears as the heat from the excitement and the other people made him feel a little dizzy. Theodore was not used to such things and his siblings would have pulled him out of this long ago, wouldn’t they?

When the song slowed Theodore took a slow breath in and tried to calm him head. Perhaps he just wasn’t built for this sort of thing. Everything was making him feel weak. But her words a little nicknames kept making him smile that boyish smile of his. “The music really is moving.” He muttered, lifting his head to the sound, “Like it feels what we are feeling.”

At her last questions he wasn’t sure how to answer completely. “Of course.” He said gently, smiling, “I just pray I can hold out with all of this. Whew.”

Amaya leaned forward, and placed a cool hands on his cheeks. "Hey," she said softly. "Teddy, are you okay?" Supporting him, she gently led him off the dance floor. Hoping that he could sense the smile in her voice, she quietly reassured him, "You really did well out there, even if you probably don't do it too often."

The great lummox joined them again, looking concerned that his charge seemed a little sick. Amaya waved him away, leading Teddy to an empty chair and pressing a cup of mint water into his hand. "Breathe, and then we'll try to dance some more, okay?" Amaya wasn't sure why she was pressing this kid so hard, but it had something to do with the kindness and bravery that shone from his face.

"You really are something," Amaya muttered, almost to low to hear. She recalled his earlier comment, and placed a hand against his forehead. "And I think that's a core idea of music. To express what you can't with words. It's a nice idea isn't it? Love, loss, sweetness and anger...all tangled up with a side helping of induviduality that can't be replaced. It's why I love playing piano so often."

Seized by the moment once more, Amaya began to speak almost before she knew what she wanted to say. "Maybe if I do come to visit, I can help you play piano. I'm sure that your family would appreciate it, especially your sister." Amaya let a warm smile seep into her voice once more. "Again, it's up to you. But because piano is about hearing, not seeing...maybe you'll enjoy it." Anxiety replaced the warmth. "I mean, I hope you don't think that I'm presumtuous or anything, I mean I've just met you and I'm- You know what? I think I'm just going to stop talking and let you speak."

“Sorry, I am not that inclined to so much excitement.”

Theodore blushed again as he became lost for words. So many times he wondered how to classify music and what it all meant. “Music is sometimes the only way I can see the world.” He said gently. The little prince felt embarrassed saying such a thing. It was usually something he kept for speaking with Floretta only.

When his attendant commented on him leaving the party shortly he raised his hand in a dismissive gesture. Although weak Theodore had yet to pay his respects to the party hostess and to greet his mother. He was enjoying his time with Lady Amaya.

He sipped at his water before handing it to his attendant. Gently he reached out for her hand and clasped it in both of his. “It would be very special to me if you helped me learn piano, Lady Amaya. I’m in your debt for your kindness.”

Albeit so young, Theodore sometimes spoke like a wise adult. “I like hearing you speak, nicknames and all. I can tell you are a very strong woman.”

Amaya felt a strong blush rise in her cheeks. This time she gave into the urge to hug him. "You really are sweet," she whispered into his ears. Pulling back, she adjusted his costume's ears. "But one thing. You're not in my debt, kiddo. You don't ever have to worry about that. Friends do things for eachother because they care to much to do otherwise. Oh, and thank you very much for the compliment." She chuckled. "I like to think that I've learned a thing or two in all my years. Of course, I think we all sometimes feel like we've learned nothing at all, ne? I think that's one of the reasons that music is so amazing. You sit back and listen, and it's just incredible that something human, or elvish, or fae ever created it, when it seems like it should have been from the Gods."

She paused. "If you take strength from music Teddy, I don't think it will be possible for you to ever feel down."
